Why “Rani”?

Since opening our doors in 2009, Rani has been more than a restaurant — it’s been a journey. From humble beginnings on Queen Street to becoming a trusted name on the Quayside, we’ve spent over a decade sharing the royal flavours of Punjab with our community.

Our Story

Established in 2009

For over 15 years, Rani has been part of Newcastle’s Quayside community, sharing the vibrant flavours of Punjab with locals and visitors alike.

Our story begins with Head Chef Chand, whose culinary journey spans more than three decades across Punjab, Goa, and Mumbai. Having cooked for royalty, Bollywood stars, and world leaders, his passion has always been the same: bringing people together through food. In Newcastle, he found the perfect place to share that passion — and Rani was born.

Our Vision

Food with heritage. Hospitality with heart.

At Rani, we believe food is never just food — it’s culture, tradition, and connection. Every dish we serve is rooted in authentic Punjabi recipes, prepared with care and shared in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Our vision is to create a space where families, friends, and communities can come together, celebrate life’s moments, and leave with a sense of belonging.

Meet Head-Chef Chand

With over 35 years of culinary mastery, Chef Chand is the heart of Rani. His journey began in Punjab and took him through the renowned kitchens of Goa and Mumbai, where he honed his craft in some of India’s most prestigious hotels.

Over the years, his skill and artistry have earned him the honour of cooking for royalty, Bollywood stars, and world leaders. During the royal visit to Patiala in 2006, he was chosen to cook for His Majesty King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) and Queen Camilla (then Duchess of Cornwall) — a career highlight that reflects the trust placed in his culinary excellence. He has also had the privilege of serving Bollywood celebrities and the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India.

Today, Chef Chand’s mission is simple: to share the authentic flavours of Punjabi cuisine with the people of Newcastle. Every dish at Rani carries his signature touch — rooted in tradition, crafted with care, and served with pride.
